poor little katie...

We made it almost nine years without an E.R. visit for any of the kids but our streak of luck ended last week. Katie was feverish Tuesday night and spent Wednesday vomitting. Seemed like a pretty typical virus. After a good night Wednesday, she woke up worse than ever on Thursday. She couldn't keep anything down at all, including sips of water. The advice nurse thought we needed to see the doctor. The doctor thought I should take Katie to the E.R. to get hydrated. The E.R. thought we would spend a few hours there, getting a few bags of fluid. However, when the lab results showed that Katie was much more severely dehydrated than anyone thought, they admitted us to the hospital. Katie was pretty miserable there, but the anti-nausea medication and hydration fluid did their magic. We were home about 24 hours after initially going to the doctor, with Katie as playful as ever. We were so grateful that I was inclined to call the nurse (I wouldn't normally call for advice) and for the wonderful care Katie received. We were also grateful for so many wonderful people in our lives who stepped up to help us during our little scare.
