This is Jeff a few hours after the accident. I had already washed off his arms, so this is him "looking better." (At the time, he was really annoyed with me taking this picture!)
We were SO grateful to have gotten an appointment with a great doctor the morning after the accident. Jeff had stitches on the bridge of his nose, at the bottom of his nose, had three broken bones, and his septum went through the nasal wall. Ouch!
Our children had different reactions to Jeff's disfigurement. Matthew would point at Jeff and say, "Mess! Hurt nose!" It took Katie several days to warm up to Jeff. She and Andrew were at the scene of the accident and Katie was pretty traumatized by all of the blood. Andrew and Rebecca were very helpful that week following Jeff's accident, when he needed sleep and quiet.
I was amazed by how much better Jeff was feeling immediately following his surgery. That was definitely the turning point for his healing. We are both so grateful for a host of friends who took our children on a moment's notice, for LONG periods of time, while I chauffered Jeff to his doctor appointments and surgery. We are grateful for friends who made wonderful meals for us. We are grateful for a loving God who blessed us with peace during our trial. Jeff is doing very well these days, though there is a good chance he will need another surgery to straighten his septum. For now, he is just happy to breath through his nose!
